Representative Al Paolillo is an
advocate for you in Harford.
This has been a remarkably challenging time for all of us. Al has worked with families and businesses alike with unemployment applications, helped people apply for financial aid and with the DMV. During these challenging times, is when we need government help and services the most. From working directly with our first responders and community health providers to expanding the capacity for PPE equipment and testing to helping our nursing homes and many businesses to address safety protocols and reopenings, Al has tried to meet you everywhere you are.
During the abbreviated Regular Session this year, the House had several significant initiatives that I’m looking forward to working on.
Renters Rebate for seniors and those who benefit from the program by simplifying the notarization requirement.
Public Safety of our streets from illegal street racing, ATV’s, and dirt bikes. And making the life-saving drug Narcan more available to our first responders.
In early June, the House held a Special Session to pass reforms in response to several pressing issues Connecticut is facing.
Absentee Voting - No one should have to choose between their right to vote and being safe. Al has worked to ensure that everyone who has health concerns has the right to vote by absentee ballot this November.
Police Transparency and Accountability - Al has taken immediate action on police accountability and transparency legislation in the wake of the murder of George Floyd in Minneapolis and other racially motivated incidents that have captured the attention of the entire nation. Al will be looking at requiring police body cameras in all towns, reforming police policies and procedures, and other initiatives.
New Haven Port Authority Funding
This year the House authorized $25 million for the New Haven Port Authority, which Al was honored to secure with the help of Senator Looney. The plans include increasing the channel depth from 35 to 40 feet and widening the basin to allow larger vessels into the harbor.
We are home to the largest port in Connecticut and second largest in New England. It’s a huge asset for our state’s impact along with access to our rail system, and I-95/I-91 for the trucking industry.
